Trending is a feature on Current News that talks about what’s trending and where the conversation is happening right now.
Breaking news is an urgent breaking event that requires the interruption of regular non-news programming or, in the case of network affiliates, a pause in their national feed so that they can switch to the network’s Breaking News graphic and countdown sequence. Often, the graphic itself has a distinctive music cue and lower thirds may be altered to convey a sense of urgency. Until the advent of 24-hour news networks, such interrupts were usually reserved for extremely urgent events such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
