It’s difficult to get enough current news, and cable and broadcast news have been suffering in the digital age for a while. As consumers’ appetite for video content grows, newscasters are facing a serious decline in their audience. While a majority of Americans still watch cable TV, the number is shrinking dramatically. The Fox News Channel will lose $20 in annual subscriber fees by 2021. Meanwhile, 85 percent of U.S. households have a subscription to one of the many streaming services.
While traditional print media was limited by distance and the news sources available, the newssheet was an enormous improvement. It was portable, sharable, and could be preserved for future use. But print remained stuck in the past, while television and radio only reported on the day’s events. Cable TV, of course, took the news to the next level. But what’s more, you can even view a complete archive of news from the past two years.
This year, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions hosted a multicultural group of accepted students on campus. The prestigious awards ceremony was attended by Chancellor James T. Minor and honored nearly 200 eligible graduate students from the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine. The college recently announced a new online course that can be completed in a single summer. There are a number of other programs offered at SIUE as well, so be sure to keep up with current news in the field.
