The term Breaking News is used to refer to a story that warrants an immediate interruption of current non-news programming (or, in the case of 24-hour news channels, regularly scheduled programming). An announcement, called a Newsflash or Special Report, typically begins with a countdown sequence that allows network affiliates to switch to the breaking news feed. Often, the newsflash will also begin with a distinctive opening graphic and music cue.

On this episode of Current News, we explore the Nu’uanu Slide — one million years ago, a submarine landslide split Oahu in half. Plus, a Florida woman’s booking photograph goes viral and the Internet rallies around her. And a report alleges that the late labor leader Cesar Chavez sexually abused women and raped his wife.

We’ll also explain how Iran is using unmanned drones — which cost far less than missiles – to even the playing field in its war with America.
