A breaking news story may be brief, or it may last for a few hours or days. A breaking news story may be newsworthy because it is a topic of wide interest to the public, or because it is an exciting event, or it may be because it carries a certain tenor.
A breaking news story can be a good time for an anchor to remind viewers that the full wrap-up of the story will be on their local station. They may also provide an outro promo directing viewers to the local station website or a streaming news channel.
