Current News
A breaking news event is a story that occurs that is so significant, or so imminently important to the public interest, that it warrants the interruption of non-news programming (or, in some cases, regularly scheduled newscasts) to report on the story. Typically, when an event is breaking, the network will alert all of its affiliates and begin a countdown sequence to allow them time to switch over to the national feed. After the countdown concludes, a news anchor will then introduce the report on air. The breaking news segment may last only a few minutes, or it may extend for several hours or even days.
