Trending covers the latest and hottest news in popular culture, politics, lifestyles and more. From the new season of “Baywatch” to a former star of “The Hills” seeking revenge on the LA mayor. Plus, the reopening of a case involving Jeffrey Epstein and why New Mexico wasn’t searched sooner. Also, a remark from Joe Rogan that got President Trump to fast-track psychedelic research.

Breaking news is a special report that interrupts non-news programming on a national network television or radio station. The station typically alerts its network affiliates to the breaking news event through a countdown sequence, and pauses the program’s regular commercial advertising for the duration of the news coverage. A news anchor then begins to introduce the story, with a graphic and distinctive music cue that distinguishes it as breaking news. In the past, breaking news events that required extensive nationwide coverage would have been interrupted by cut-ins or tickers during regularly scheduled programming. Now, 24-hour news networks have their own dedicated breaking news channels.
