There are many different methods of obtaining current news, including the print media and the Internet. The process of obtaining news has changed considerably over the years. Today, it is possible to find news on just about any subject you can imagine. Some forms of news are more traditional than others, such as radio and TV, while others are purely experimental.

Before the development of newspapers, news was mostly transmitted orally. However, in the 1500s, the spread of printing presses impacted news circulation. This shifted the nature of news from a straightforward factual form to a more emotional style. Despite the change in content, private newsletters remained popular among people who needed to stay informed. The first newspaper emerged in Germany in the early 1600s. It is regarded as the world’s first ‘newspaper,’ though the ancient Roman acta diurna served a similar purpose as early as 131 BC.

The media has become increasingly collaborative and the boundaries between professional and amateur journalists and producers have blurred. In addition, the boundaries between for-profit and nonprofit media have shifted. Today’s newsrooms are often more integrated than ever, and the newsroom and business office may be one. The boundaries between for-profit and nonprofit news organizations are being dissolved by a plethora of partnerships.

The Bentley Library has several databases of news publications. You can also browse through a variety of newspapers and periodical publications through Google Search. However, you need to have Bentley credentials in order to access these databases. Some databases offer international news and newspaper publications. Alternatively, you can search for a specific publication in the database by using a keyword.
