In the fall of 2018, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville celebrated its 9th straight year of achieving the INSIGHT Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award. The awards recognize colleges and universities that demonstrate a commitment to student development.

SIUE’s School of Engineering joined with Enterprise Holdings Foundation for a ribbon cutting ceremony in the new atrium, located in the Engineering Building. The atrium was renovated with a donation of $1.5 million.

During Homecoming, the university also celebrated the arrival of alumni and friends to the campus. This year’s celebration included a virtual event, a late-night breakfast for students, and an in-person event to welcome the new semester.

The fall Digital Humanities Student Showcase showcased innovative works by students utilizing digital tools and methods. The show also featured a panel of experts in the field. Five winners were recognized.

SIUE’s Educational Leadership program selected 10 students to participate in the ISLPP (Illinois School Leadership Pipeline Program). These aspiring principals come from large school districts, as well as smaller communities in northern and southern Illinois. Aside from the awards ceremony, the students were invited to attend a late-night breakfast with SIUE Chancellor James T. Minor, and a luncheon with other SIUE administrators, faculty, and community members.

Throughout the semester, the university will continue to celebrate its achievements in the higher education community. For example, the university has received a special collection of historical research from the Douglas and Betty Noverr Collection of Walt Whitman’s Journalism.
