NYPD officer chases purse thief down street on horseback

A New York City police officer on horseback chased down a purse thief on a crowded Manhattan street, catching the encounter on his bodycam.

When breaking news occurs that warrants interruption of current non-news programming (or, in some cases, regular network or local newscasts), the broadcaster will usually alert affiliates to stand by. Then, the current program will pause and a countdown sequence will begin, allowing stations to switch over to the network feed to report the event live. A special graphic will be introduced, often with a distinctive music cue, to identify the story. Lower thirds and other graphics may be altered to create a sense of urgency.
