Trending – Articles about Current News
When a news event occurs that warrants an interruption of non-news programming or even regular newscasts, broadcasters may use the term “breaking news” to describe it. This can occur for very urgent events such as the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy in 1963 or for ongoing events such as a natural disaster that requires extensive, long-form coverage. Typically, stations will interrupt regularly scheduled commercial advertising with a graphic and countdown sequence to allow network affiliates to join the breaking news feed. Additionally, lower thirds and other graphics are often altered to convey the urgency of the report.
