Articles about Current News
Trending is a breaking news segment on television and radio shows where a station or network interrupts regular programming to report on an urgent, time-critical story. The segment usually opens with a graphic and distinctive music, and is sometimes preceded by the network’s news anchor asking viewers to “stand by for an emergency update”. Breaking stories may require that non-news programs be interrupted at any time, or they may be reported within a regular broadcast such as a weathercast, newscast, or sports program. Prior to the rise of 24-hour news channels, news interruptions were usually limited to extremely urgent events such as the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, which required numerous stations to interrupt programming and use cut-ins or special reports.
