Trending talks about what’s happening in the world right now. Whether it’s the 2022 conviction of Kouri Richins for spiking her husband’s drink with fentanyl; accusations against renowned labor leader Cesar Chavez of abusing children and raping Dolores Huerta; or the one-million-year-old submarine landslide that split Oahu in half, we’re covering news you can’t ignore.
When a story warrants breaking news coverage, national broadcast networks interrupt current non-news programming and/or regularly scheduled newscasts with a newsflash or special report. This is known as a cut-in, though before the days of 24-hour news channels such as CNN and Fox News, this type of interruption was reserved for the most urgent of stories such as the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
A typical cut-in begins with a countdown sequence to allow affiliate stations to switch over to the network feed. From there, a news anchor usually welcomes viewers and introduces the story at hand.
